Nothing is worse than that time of day when it’s too late to eat lunch and too early to eat dinner.
You’re walking down the street, desperately looking for something tasty to hold you over until a socially accepted mealtime hour. Chips from the dépanneur? Maybe a chocolate bar? The junk food possibilities are endless, but who wants those empty calories?
No longer! After New York,Toronto and Vancouver, it’s now Montreal’s turn to hop on the food truck bandwagon! To mark the event, Grumman ‘78 presents Les premiers vendredis, a street food celebration that will take place at the Olympic Stadium Esplanade on June 1st, July 6th and August 3rd.
This new enterprise is largely due to an initiative by Gaelle Cerf, avant-garde co-owner of the now famous Grumman ‘78 food truck. “We didn’t reinvent the wheel,” she said, humbly. “The concept has existed forever and is present in many countries. It fills a need that people have to get together and eat.”
Despite the dismal weather for the June 1st launch, a sense of fun was in the air. The Olympic Stadium Esplanad
e was filled with ‘beautiful people,’ of all ages, come from all over the city to sample the food from Grumman ‘78
. And what a lineup! “They're attracted by the truck...” Cerf whispered, visibly surprised by the crowd. But in all objectivity, after having tried a couple of their famous tacos, including the signature Bhan-mi (5$), the truck isn’t the cause of all this buzz. Their selection is as delicious as it is creative, and includes feta and pepper tacos, beef tongue, escargots, and even foie gras for those gourmet snobs...Yum yum!
