Reiki cancer therapy

What is reiki?

The Japanese art of healing, Reiki was created in Japan in the early 20th century by Dr Usui.

Reiki is a type of spiritual practice used as a complementary therapy to treat physical, mental and emotional illnesses. ‘Reiki’ means “universal life energy” in Japanese.

In reiki terms, energy is referred to as Ki.

How does reiki work?

Reiki isn’t not affiliated with any religion or belief system, however it's a spiritual practice.

Practitioners believe that ‘energy fields’ affect the physical and spiritual health of the patient. Reiki therapists attempt to balance the energy fields in and around your body to promote healing and well-being.

Practitioners put their hands on, or a few inches above, your body - like a non-contact or very light massage. They then slowly move their hands in long brushing movements. This usually starts at the top of your head and goes down towards your feet. They may also focus on a particular area of your body where energy is built up.

What is reiki used for?

Most people use reiki to relax and deal with stress and tension. It's also commonly used to promote general wellbeing.

Reiki and cancer treatment

Cancer sufferers who have used reiki often report that it helps them cope with the side effects of the treatments. Reiki is used to manage pain, anxiety and sickness.

It’s important to talk to a doctor about any complementary therapy, alternative therapy or diet supplement that you use especially when undergoing treatment for cancer.
