Reflexology cancer therapy
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a touch technique applied to the feet, hands and face and originates from ancient Egypt, India, Japan and China.
Pressure is applied with specific hand, finger and thumb techniques to areas (zones) on your face, feet or hands which relate to organs, limbs or other areas on your body.
How does reflexology work?
The maniuplation and pressure applied to the zones in the area treated (feet is the most common) is said to activate the body's qi elsewhere.
What is reflexology used for?
Reflexology works to primarily relieve tension and stress from affected areas of the body. Like acupuncture, reflexology aims to restore the body’s natural equilibrium by boosting the body’s ‘qi’ and promoting holistic well-being.
The Reflexology Association of Canada also say that this 'improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body'.
Reflexology and cancer treatment
Reflexoloy can help cancer sufferers to cope with the stress and anxiety of their illness by promoting deep relaxation. It may also help to allievate pain
Though there is little scientific evidence to support claims that reflexology can also boost your immune system many firmly believe that it does help to fight colds, infections, sinus problems, back problems, hormonal imbalances, infertility and digestive problems.
Paitents should choose a reflexologist trained in treating cancer paitents as there are areas or zones which should be avoided when the paitent is undergoing her treatment.
