It’s important to remember why everyone is there and why you are dolled up to the nines; it’s because you and your partner dig each other.

There’s always going to be pushy photographers, chatty aunties and drunk friends commanding your time, so schedule in half an hour where the two of you take some time out and let it all sink in; take a stroll around the grounds, or ask the driver to scoot round the block a couple of times while you sip some champagne.

It’s a good opportunity to laugh at the moment you tripped over the altar, give each other a bosomy hug (without hundreds of pairs of eyes on you) and generally reconnect on one of the most important days of your life.

From hereon in your time will be consumed by the increasingly drunken entourage that awaits.
