Winter-proofing your skin

The ‘science’ bit:
The ‘science’ bit:

A new season means changes to your skin care routines; Amanda Bown got the experts to explain why it’s important to change them, and what we should look out for and why.

Sally Penford, Education Manager at International Dermal Institute says
‘Going from warm, indoor environments to outdoor winds, causes blood capillaries to dilate and contract while central heating leeches moisture from the air, resulting dry, chapped, irritated skin.'

She recommends exfoliation as 'dead skin cells build-up, clog pores and reduce effectiveness of moisturizers.' Eek!

Penfold also advises that we 'look for ingredients such as anti-oxidants that fight free radical damage. Skin strengtheners such as Palmitoyl Pentapeptide and Corallina Officianalis, which improve skin firmness. And to soothe dryness look for ingrediants such as organic shea butter and silicone.’
