How to find or become a surrogate

Surrogacy is legal in the UK, however the law imposes restrictions.  Advertising is prohibited, either to be a surrogate or for a surrogate.

Unlike some other parts of the world expenses are limited to what is required for the pregnancy, and the court will check these at a later date.

If you're interested in how to find a surrogate or how to become a surrogate mother you can start by contacting an organization such as Surrogate Pathways, COTS (childlessness overcome by surrogacy) or A Little Wish

The organizations provide information and offer support and a place for parties to meet each other.  Most organizations check the health and background of its members.

Once people have found who they would like to work with, it is a legal requirement for an agreement to be made between all parties - however it is not legally binding.  To date, for the rare cases where there has been a conflict, the agreements have assisted the intended parents becoming the legal parents of the baby.
