Is it normal if...? Your pregnancy questions answered

Acne and pregnancy

It's normal to get breakouts. They're due to hormonal imbalances caused by pregnancy.
Some lucky, lucky women get flawless, glowing skin throughout their pregnancy, while others develop spots, a sign of oily skin. Acne is caused by an increased level of progesterone. Don't panic though: it will gradually disappear after you give birth.

Extra advice: many women find that homeopathy sessions during pregnancy help combat acne. Discuss it with your doctor.
However, if you wish to treat your acne with zinc (the most popular option), wait until the end of the first trimester. As Dr Frydman explains, "zinc tablets are safe to take during pregnancy, but only after the first trimester."
