Adam Cohen, towards the light
The Real Adam Cohen

Adam Cohen finds himself

Cohen has grown since his first album, which basically went unnoticed,  came out in 1998. He’s especially broadened his register. After 15 minutes with him, you realize that he’s saying true and reasonable things, with wisdom and sometimes, restraint. Especially when he talks about his musical beginnings. “When I was younger, I took violin and piano lessons but I learned a lot on my own.”

He admits that school just wasn’t his thing. Or, it was but “only as a pretext to meet girls,” he says. “ I  had no intention of having any other career besides music. I’ve always had bands, I’ve always played instruments.”

Cohen writes his own songs. He finds inspiration in his romantic interludes, and various connections. “I’m a word administrator. I work, that’s my job. I write things, I put them aside, and I keep looking. I don’t have formulas. But the musique you like is usually linked to often limited themes.”

His theme: relationships, often with a touch of social commentary. and romantic connections, like the one with “sweet Dominique,” who had a memorable impact on his life. “A deep and delicious romantic connection which is almost ten years old,” he confessed.

Since finding his own way, Cohen is now comfortable acknowledging his paternal heritage, especially in this new album. “The album was born from a dream that I’ve always had, but wasn’t yet ready to do; the will of a young man who has alwasys wanted to have a career and an honorable mention in a certain profession. The first part of my career was characterized by an appetite for success:meeting women, being on the radio, participating in sex, drugs and rock-n-roll! What matters to me know if what I do, which is the opposite. I try to honor my father, as the Bible says, by being more honorable, as part of the family business, and embrace the tradition in which I was raised.”
