Keep a spending diary
Tip No.# 2 Keep a spending diary
If you really want to get a grip on your spending, write a detailed list of everything you spend money on for one week - and be honest!
When you review it at the end of the week, you will probably find things you would like to cut back on. For example - a shop-bought coffee on the way to work might cost £2 daily, whereas a jar of coffee that could last a month would be far more economical.
The same goes for all those secret purchases you make each week - a copy of your favourite magazine and a chocolate bar, the latest lipgloss or extra pricey shampoo you indulged in also need to go on the list.
It can be hard to face up to where your money goes - you might not want to know you waste £10 each week on chocolate, but knowing allows you to make decisions about where you could afford to cut back.
