When it comes to your kids there are certain pre-emptive measures that you can take to stick to your monthly budget:

Practice makes perfect:
Practice saying no. Think of your purse strings and no matter how loud they yell.

Going the whole nine yards:
Try not to go all out by getting your son a Wii, PSP and electric guitar unless it’s a special occasion.

Start a reward system, and try to familiarize your children with budget-minded activities to have fun.

Don’t fall for the ‘Keeping up with the Jones’ trick that your kids might try on every now and then: “But if Tom from next door can have it, why can’t I?” isn’t justification to blow your budget.

If you want to treat your kids try visiting online shopping sites for great deals kid’s toys.  Swapit  is a great site where children can swap their pre-loved toys with other children.
