You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that switching off the lights and electrical appliances when not in use will cut major expenses on the dreaded electricity bill. These tips for saving on your monthly outgoings will help the pennies to look after themselves:

Financial expert David Bach, who wrote ‘Start Late, Finish Rich’ says: “As long as everyone in the family saves a percentage of pay each month, what the rest is spent on really doesn’t matter.”

Bach, goes on to say that the whole ‘family budget’ cliché doesn’t serve any real purpose and what we really need to do is put away 10% of our earnings each month before paying monthly expenses. This way, by the end of the year you should have a nice little wedge. Just in time for Christmas.

Household purchases need to be carefully chosen. Always plan ahead on what you want. Prioritizing is the operative word here. If you have a choice between fixing the leaky roof or buying a HD TV figure out which one is most important.
