Make-up tips from Pat McGrath - Global Creative Design Director for CoverGirl

After working backstage with some of the biggest names in fashion, make-up artist Pat McGrath picks out two trends that couldn't be any more different but that you absolutely have to try!

For days when you're after a romantic, ultra feminine look, Pat McGrath suggests taking inspiration from Roberto Cavalli and John Galliano's catwalk models, for whom she created soft, almost innocent looks.

At Roberto Cavalli, the girls had a flawless complexion, rosy cheeks, smoky eyes and natural lips. Perfect to go along with this season's colourful clothing trend!

As for John Galliano, he proposed an almost childlike innocence, featuring lots of pink on cheeks, lips and even as a halo around the eyes.

If, in contrast, you want more striking make-up, take a look at Christian Dior and Yohji Yamamoto's offerings. The two looks are completely different but they have one thing in common: intense lips!

At Christian Dior, sublime red lips are accompanied by eyes that are just as profound. The result is both sexy and sophisticated.

As it's not so easy to pull off bold make-up, Pat McGrath recommends either accentuating the eyes or the lips.

An excellent example can be seen at Yohji Yamamoto, where the spotlight is turned on plum-coloured lips and the eyes are almost faded out.
