Make-up advice for Caucasian-white skin

According to make-up artist Lisa Eldridge, Creative Director at Boots No7, we often need far less foundation than we think we do. Base should hide shadows and even out skin tone, not mask the face.

At Selfridges, Illamasqua offers 17 shades across five formulations to suit a whole spectrum of colour, including alabaster white (from £19.57, available at Selfridges).

Blonds: Soft pinks on lips and cheeks work well and mascara is a must to define eyes.

Warm caramel or rich reds work best on lips, with apricot or pink blush over cheeks.

Brunettes: Wear rosy hues on both lips and eyes, and do as your grandmother did and rub a touch of lipstick onto lips and cheeks for an instant lift. Try the Bobbi Brown Lip Crayon in Wild Rose (£18, bobbibrown.co.uk) for a creamy, blend-easy formula.
