If you ever wondered how ‘The Beckhams’ began, then legend has it that it was here: in the Midland Hotel’s French Restaurant.

Rumoured to be the location of Victoria and David’s first date when she was still Posh and he was still playing at Manchester United, this restaurant has more stories than any other in the city.

Having been resident at the Grade II city centre hotel since 1903, it has a good claim to being one of the oldest restaurants in the city. And even though its elegance and sophistication is timeless, its classic Parisian design and dinner service provide patrons with a dining experience of an age gone by.

Allegedly the place that  George Best used to frequent and Ian Fleming mused over his James Bond creations, this restaurant holds the best of Manchester: its rich history, its love for football and of course, its passion for Lancashire grub.

OK, so the menu here may be traditionally French, but head chef Paul Beckley makes sure to use the very best of local produce.

Entering the exquisitely designed crisp-white restaurant, this is definitely somewhere to get your glad rags out for. After all, it worked for Posh.
