The following day, I was allowed to wash my face again but with a basic gentle cleanser. My usual toner went untouched (anything acidic will be too harsh post-peel).

Glycolic acid has the additional beneficial ability to draw moisturizers into skin surface - theoretically this means anything you put on your skin after an acid peel will work much better than when it has to fight its way through dead skin cells.

To this end, I was also advised to moisturize (I use Clinique Dramatically Different) and follow that up with a Vitamin C serum. Marie recommended Vit C Obagi serum which is a great anti-oxidant (£60)

The serum acts as a conduit, improving the performance of the Heliocare Factor 50 Sun Block Gel (£20) I was also instructed to use sparingly each day.

‘Sun protection is the number one thing you can do to prevent the signs of aging’ Marie told me. 'Avoid sun-exposure, artificial tanning and direct heat sources until the skin returns to normal post-peel'

Her advice is to use nothing below a factor 30 and to wear a hat when out and about.
