"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes the freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media, regardless of frontiers."

This article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted in 1948 is a statement which we can all agree with.
 
Having the freedom to express an opinion is something we don't even have to think about here in the UK, but that's not the case in Iran, China, Cuba, Saudia Arabia, Bangladesh... countries where this right is regularly violated.

Fortunately, in a world where the noose is tightening around censorship, certain women have decided to take steps to further denounce this sort of oppression.

Here, we profile eight empowering women who aren't afraid to speak their minds; their actions and campaigns are truly inspirational and remind us that there is still so much to fight for.
