Focusing on women and babies

Medical Aid Films is particularly committed to the health of women and their babies. It was, after all, founded by two obstetricians.

That means their work focuses primarily on pregnancy, childbirth, cancer and nutrition and diseases in children under 5.

Their current films – some designed to provide training, others to raise awareness – focus on pregnancy, delivery and cervical cancer.

They have a lot of goals for the future.

There are at least 20 other films they already know they’d like to make – many focusing on similar issues like ultrasounds, ectopic pregnancy and cervical cancer.

They envision turning their website into a community – a sort of Facebook-WebMD hybrid that would allow medical workers from all over the world to access teaching tools and the latest quality medical information, and communicate with one another through message boards and chat rooms.

Through the site, too, they want to improve communication between charities doing similar work in the same countries.

In Rwanda, for example, where Medical Aid Films is launching its pilot project on the ground, “absolutely everybody is there,” Jauniaux said. “And nobody knows what they’re doing.”
