“You arrive at a stage in your life and you say, 'what can I do to be useful?'” Prost said.
It was a feeling echoed by Greenwold, Jauniaux and Browne, who are all in their 40s. A new twist on the midlife crisis, they agreed with a laugh.

Greenwold and Jauniaux both hit a point where they realized they wanted to share their skills and more than 20 years experience in medicine with communities outside their own.

Especially now, with the global reach of the Internet and mobile phone technology, “it makes this feel much more tangible,” Greenwold said.

Really, the doctors felt, there was nothing preventing them from getting up and doing it, she said. “I think we have to ask ourselves why not?”
