MDG 8: Global Partnership

The Goal: A global partnership for development

Targets to be met by 2015:

  • Develop an open, rule-based, predictable, non-discriminatory trading and financial system. This includes a commitment to good governance, development and poverty reduction – both nationally and internationally
  • Deal with the debt problems of developing countries
  • In cooperation with the private sector, make available information and communications available as well as access to pharmaceutical care.

What has been achieved?
Debt burdens have been eased for developing countries and trade access to European and Northern American markets is slowly being eased.
Even though levels of aid continue to rise, the richest states have failed to meet their commitment to donate 0.7% of gross national income and have failed to deliver on a promise to double aid to Africa. The USA, France, Germany, UK and Japan are the largest donors.
