Facts About Women: Where We Stand In The World

As women, we've already done so much to improve our standing in today's world, from reproductive rights to the vote. Yet, there are millions of us still fighting for proper education, higher-paying jobs, and respect for our bodies. We gathered facts about women to show where we are today and how much more we have left to strive for.

We still live in a world where a person's gender can have significant consequences on their future. If you're male, especially a white one, those consequences can be incredibly positive. However, if you're a female, your future is hindered by several roadblocks. Factor in race and those roadblocks start to multiply!

While it's true in some ways that we have never had it so good, there's no need to get complacent, and there's certainly so much more that we have still to achieve. While on the surface it may seem like we're on a level playing field, prejudice against women still exists.

Apparently we're too emotional to be influential world leaders, too irrational to perform as effective CEOs, and too immoral to make decisions about our own birth control. Yet, in countries where women have access to higher education, we graduate at higher rates than the boys in our lecture halls. In countries where girls lack access to schooling, powerful movements have been enacted to accomplish their innate desire to learn in order to become educated and influential members of their communities.

After Hobby Lobby, the dismal reports of wage gaps, and the harrowing frequency of female rape, it's important to step back and see where we are. From the division of domestic chores to the division of the world's wealth, it seems we're still FAR from equal.

Anyone else think it's time for MAJOR change?

So...let's cut through the bullsh*t, shall we and be honest with ourselves? Women across the globe continue to face insulting and systemic discrimination that sprouts from sexist thinking.

Yet women also continue to prove themselves as capable soldiers, dynamic political leaders, fierce protectors of a woman's access to birth control, expose violence against our bodies, and risk their lives EVERY DAY striving for basic, civil rights. Thank you. Don't stop the fight, ladies. All the things we're bound to accomplish, we will only accomplish together.
