On the night of the 24th, we all gather at my grandparents' house. One year, we celebrate with my father's family, the next with my mother's and so on.
Most of the time we attend the mass at 9pm. We all sing really loudly and have a lot of fun because there are so many of us.
When we arrive home, we have mulled wine and dinner. Usually, it is one of the traditional Christmas foods like tartiflette (a potato and cheese dish) or raclette (a melted cheese dish). And after dinner, we go to bed.
Some of the adults take charge of preparing the Christmas presents in the living room which we don't open untill the next morning. Two of my cousins still believe in Santa Claus!
On the morning of the 25th, we all open our presents together. Then lunch time consists of the ultimate in Christmas food : foie gras, oysters, salmon, guinea fowl, cheese and yule log. This takes untill the evening. If we can manage it, we take a little walk along the beach or through the forest afterwards.
And the following year, it is pretty much the same - but with the other side of the family.
