The US elections are coming up. What do the Cuban people expect from the United States?
The Cuban people have always expected help from the American government, to solve the problems in Cuba. That help, which my people have expected for the last 50 years, has never come and will never come. Fidel Castro has been the most influential political person of the 20th century. He led and presided over the Non-Aligned movement until 2006. That represents 118 countries. It’s a little ambiguous that Castro has participated in all the formal wars and guerrillas of the 20th century and yet he is still respected by the Americans. I think that this situation exists because the Americans find it useful. Maybe there will be an explanation to all this in the future. However, 50 years later, this Castro ideology is very popular in some Latin American countries.”
