How to distinguish yourself from other people

 

Clothes, opinions, musical tastes... we often subconsciously follow the crowd (our families, social circles and peers). Why? Because we're afraid of being judged and rejected by other people. "But it's never too late to search for and express your personality", explains Isabelle Filliozat. "We feel like we're ourselves when we feel confident".

What to do: Distance yourself from what others are doing! Use any opportunity: if you're eating out and everybody else has ordered fruit for dessert, go for the chocolate mousse instead. If your family only ever go to Spain for their hols, announce that this summer you're off to Austria.

Extra tip: Experiment with your style. Go 'shopping' without your wallet and credit card and just try on pieces and styles you'd never normally wear. Have fun playing with new looks and surprise yourself - you never know, you might find playsuits you'd never pick up actually look really good on you.
