Now science has given us even more reason to skip the gym and enjoy a night in.
Studies conducted at the University of Alberta in Canada found that red wine, nuts and grapes have a complex called resveratrol which improves heart, muscle and bone functions in the same way we benefit from a one hour session at the gym. Sounds too good to be true, we know.
But studies on rats have been positive. Researcher at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Dyck said "We were excited when we saw that resveratrol showed results similar to what you would see from extensive endurance exercise training.”
But sadly, being drunk doesn't come with the same health benefits. You can only take advantage with a SINGLE glass of red wine. (Even if the good news calls for more than one glass of celebratory wine.)
Studies have only been conducted on rodents so far but there are plans to test the theory on diabetics soon too. And if the results are effective it may just change the way we see red wine for good.
So forget the guilt! If you're feeling too tired you have permission to skip your workout class and sip on a glass of red tonight (large obviously).
