As with dairy products, sugary desserts can be tricky because for the lack of sugar to be worth your while, they also have to be low in fat. For example, some chocolate puddings are very low in fat but full of sugar, which makes them just as bad for you as your average chocolate mousse.

Our nutritionist says: "If you look hard enough you can find tasty and low-calorie desserts that are ideal for slimmers: egg-based or caramel desserts are good examples."
