Balance big meals

When you know you're in for a heavy meal in the evening, it's tempting to skip breakfast and lunch to compensate.

Biiiig mistake.

Don't miss meals - you'll starve and end up eating more later on. Eat slow-release sugars (bread or cereals), yogourt, steamed fish, fruit and veg. Why? Firstly, if you don't eat enough during the day, you'll simply pig out more later; and secondly, your body will struggle to cope with such a colossal amount of calories from one big evening meal. Spread them out during the day.

However, by all means balance out hefty meals with nutritious low-fat meals. The day after a big dinner, for example, have a really healthy lunch or dinner (2 hard-boiled eggs without the yolks, fat-free, sugar-free yogourt, raw or steamed veg). Eat enough to stop you snacking, but eat healthily. Egg whites suppress your appetite, veg fills you up and yogourt provides you with plenty of protein. (source: Dr Cohen).
