"Before the party, fill up on complex carbohydrates such as wholewheat pasta, brown rice and oat cakes, which will give a slow release of energy and make you less likely to overindulge. Soup is also good if it isn’t cream-based."
"Eat an apple as they can trick you into feeling fuller than you are."
"Drink plenty of water before the party. People commonly mistake dehydration for hunger. Also alternate alcohol drinks at the party with glasses of water."
All sound advice - but alternating every drink with water? Best be prepared to spend half the night in the queue for the loo - just think of your thighs.
