Set-ups – what happens when friends play matchmaker?

Not a great start...

Out of all my friends, Lady Jane has been the most active on my behalf.

Her levels of enthusiasm are yet to be matched with any level of success.

The funniest example was when I was visiting her in Manchester and she told me about her cool graphic design friend who she thought I’d like – funny, stylish in a preppy kind of way and, crucially, available.

I arrived at her local bar, a little bit excited if I’m honest, to be introduced to a guy in head-to-toe lycra, glistening with sweat.

‘Is this him?’ I asked Lady Jane incredulously.

‘Er, yeah, but I have never ever seen him look like this before’ she said, gutted.

Now I’m all for people exercising in their own time (he was clearly straight off his bike) but there’s no need to flaunt it is there? Needless to say, we didn’t exchange numbers.

Since then there hasn’t been much set-up action. Until now…
