Make it an experience

Vintage shopping doesn’t have to involve hard labour (why is it that the word ‘trawling’ is always used?). It can actually be fun! We love Paris-based Ooh La La Vintage which puts the thrill of discovery at the heart of its vintage shopping experience. Lady at the helm is Tara Munroe, an ex-pat fashion nut who runs vintage master classes out of her Seine-side studio. She'll arrange for those who come to Paris for vintage inspiration to stay in a nostalgic hotel, tour the city's best vintage shops in an old Citroën and attend one of her classes on the sunny terrace of her flat avec vin rouge!

Tara also organizes clothing sales in elegant hotels (in London and Paris) accompanied by afternoon tea and talks on vintage clothing. Most of her pieces have stories: a stylish green dress was made from pool table felt "when times where
hard during the war and good fabric hard to source", she says. And a midnight blue silk crepe coat was bought by Yves Saint Laurent for design inspiration: "You can't actually source this kind of crepe anymore for love nor money".
