How to become a fashion designer

Increase your fashion knowledge

Being an expert in your field is always important.

So brush up on your trend spotting skills, your designer knowledge and fashion know how by watching video streaming of runway shows, subscribing to major fashion magazines and reading fashion blogs – you could even set up your own.

Browse through magazines like Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, and of course, keep yourself up to date with our fashion pages here at wewomen. If you can’t afford to subscribe to hard copies, you can always head to your local library.

There you’ll find copies of all the major fashion publications, as well as books related to the fashion industry.

In short, do your research, and start to make a note of which looks you are drawn to, which designers you favour and notice what’s not out there yet that you could bring to the fore.
