At Fashion East, as the sartorial stylings of Holly Fulton, Heikki Salonen and Michael Van Der Ham unfolded, each designer proved to have a truly unique aesthetic offering, making for a varied show of surprises.

Holly Fulton is channelling New York with her collection of cityscape dresses and art deco patterns.

Using Perspex, Swarovski and metal she creates 3D masterpieces upon her sheath dresses and leggings, which are paired with studded slippers.
Her prints look like the inner-workings of some heavy machinery and add character to white tunics, coats and clutch bags. Heidi is truly a textural tour de force.
Heikki Salonen’s monochrome collection (with the occasional addition of palest taupe) of punky jackets and sheer shirts also had textural touches that make you sit up and pay attention.

A sleek waistcoat features a spray paint effect along with a scattering of black beads and a white noise-like print adorns trousers in chunky stripes.
Michael Van Der Ham showed a series of Cubist-style dresses – asymmetric panels and patches were constructed in an artfully haphazard way.

Panels of sheer chiffon adjoin cheery floral prints and blue rara ruffles adorn black jersey. This was definitely one of the more innovative collections that we’ve seen this Week.
