London Fashion Week SS2010: Day One

Negotiating the hordes of Estethica fans, it was time to step into the opulent and vibrant world of Ashley Isham.

The Singapore-born designer has a firm reputation for creating red carpet showstoppers and he was sure not to disappoint.

In his ninth season at London Fashion Week there was no shortage of glamour with an assortment of sweeping georgette gowns, body conscious micro-minis and pearl embellishments heading up the collection.

Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child and TV presenter Jenni Falconer were both impressed by the dress designer, each making a note of their favourite styles - look out for them at an awards show near you.

Bouncing between venues, it was back to the BFC tents and to Bora Aksu, London Fashion Week’s resident storyteller.

Like a cross between a Tim Burton film and Alice in Wonderland, his s/s10 collection features spider web knits strewn over billowing Victorian sleeves, delicate pink rose prints clouded by sheer black chiffon and gold epaulettes with a vine print creeping down a soft cropped jacket.

Romantic and slightly sinister, Bora’s fairytale princess could rescue herself and would look good doing it.
