Finding that rare pearl at the St-Michel Flea Market

by Marie-Sarah Published on November 5, 2014

An old handsaw as wall art. A coffee table created from stacked apple crates. An unusual coat hook bursting with character.

If you’re wondering where your creative friend got her vintage design ideas, chances are she shops at the St-Michel Flea Market.

Located at 3250 Crémazie Blvd. East in Montreal, off Highway 40, this bazaar may not seem all that inviting at first, but don’t let its shabbiness keep you away. It’s the perfect place to shop if you love interior design and appreciate unique finds.

Inside, you’ll see an endless parade of booths offering every imaginable item. If you’re the type who likes to look at every little thing, expect to spend several hours going through the endless maze. While most of the merchants are antique resellers, you’ll also find artisans who sell their own creations, like Atelier 739 (see photo below).

The St-Michel Flea Market is open Friday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Just remember to bring cash because they don’t accept credit cards, and don’t be afraid to negotiate. The best part of going to flea markets is being able to bargain!
