A common misconception about a vegetarian diet is that you will be restricted to a diet of sad bowls of iceberg lettuce and celery sticks which couldn’t be farther from the truth.

In actuality, a vegetarian has a large number of options that are far more enticing than you may think. One example would be the delicious and complex flavors of some of the vegetarian dishes of India. Even your old favorite standbys like ice cream are available to newly minted vegetarians.

“There are so many plant-based imitation products on the market these days that even if you’re not into cooking there’s really barely anything you have to give up,” says Barbi. “You can buy vegan ice cream, vegan sour cream, vegan cheese, veggie chicken nuggets, etc.”

Another myth that surrounds vegetarianism is the deficit of protein in a meat-free diet. “Protein is abundant in all foods,” she says. “You need to not be eating enough calories in general in order not to be getting enough protein.”

The same goes for nutrients such as calcium and iron which can be found in everything from a range of beans and legumes to dark leafy greens like kale and spinach.
