 - Cooking with potatoes, potato recipes & ideas
Potatoes originated in South America and were brought to Britain in the sixteenth century by either Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh, or Spanish conquistadors, depending on who you believe. The humble spud is eaten all over the world and is available all year round.

Potatoes are a staple of many different types of cuisine and you can do pretty much anything with them. Boiled, mashed, baked, fried, sautéed, or however you eat yours, potatoes are an essential and delicious part of our diet.

Dieters sometimes tend to skip their spuds, but potatoes can help you lose weight (see article). See our lowdown on their nutritional value and the different types available.

Whether you're entertaining or simply feeding the kids, there's a potato recipe for every occasion, and they're fantastic because they go with everything! Here are our favuorite potato starters and mains along with our chef's tips for cooking with them and keeping them fresh.
