Losing weight before pregnancy

Fertility can be reduced and pregnancy more complicated if you are over (or under) your ideal body weight, so achieving your ideal weight before you fall pregnant is best for you and your baby.

Crash diets are not, however, the answer as they can unbalance hormones and reduce fertility, deplete nutrient levels and so affect the health of your baby and may lead to harmful toxin release. If you are overweight increased body fat may also mean more stored toxins. Fast weight loss can release this toxicity too quickly for you to clear it all from the body and it may pass to your baby. Safe weight loss is around 2 lbs (1kg) a week.
