Don't stress

Trying for a baby is a stressful time if you and your partner put too much pressure on yourselves, you could be making things even harder.

Remember that whilst making a baby is the most natural thing in the world, it might not happen overnight. Taking the right steps to prepare yourselves both physically and mentally, will help enhance your chances of getting pregnant fast.

Ensuring you are not stressed out, anxious or panicked is just as important as giving up cigarettes and taking folic acid.

A study at Oxford University last year revealed a link between stress and an impaired ability to conceive. Researchers found that women with a stress indicative enzyme were 12% less likely to get pregnant during the most fertile period of their monthly cycle.

Doctor Cecilia Pyper, from the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit at Oxford University, said: 'We found that those women with high levels of a marker for stress were less likely to succeed in conceiving.

'In some people's cases, it might be relevant to look at relaxation techniques, counselling and even approaches like yoga and meditation.'

So why not join your local yoga centre or start meditating on a daily basis? Even finding the time to soak in the bath or relax with friends will help to reduce your stress levels, and increase your likelihood of getting pregnant.

It can be the last thing you want to hear when all you can think about is your ovulation window of opportunity and the inevitable "When is it going to be me!" thoughts that race through your head every time someone else gets pregnant.

It is difficult to deal with the feelings of hopelessness that come as your period descends once more, but keep on doing 'the business' and you may find that as soon as you ease off the pressure that you'll be blooming pregnant in no time.

If you really are worried about what is taking you so long, the best thing to do is visit your GP who can refer you to a fertility specialist.
