A single mother's story...

Genny became a single parent six years ago. She suffered abuse in the marriage, and at the same time she was made redundant and was going to lose her house. With two young children, she knew she had to find a way of supporting them.

Around that time, someone told her about Gingerbread - a charity that supports single parents. She got in touch and went on an awayday with other single mums. Gingerbread really helped her to build her confidence back to get through a difficult time in her life.

Since then Genny has set up a local group to help other lone parents in her area as well as starting a group for children, called Confident Children. Kids often lose confidence after their parents' relationship breaks down and Genny's confidence project helps restore it through organized groups and holidays. Thanks to the help she received when she needed it most, and her own tenacity, Genny's own sons, now eight and six, have grown into happy football obsessed boys.

This is Genny's story...
