Are pretend cookers and vacuums suitable gifts for children?

Does giving your child a pretend vacuum cleaner or cooker guide them into boring, uninteresting games? And is giving such toys to a little girl sexist stereotyping?

In theory: "No. In fact, these kinds of toys are games for the imagination (dressing up, Playmobil, etc) because children never simply imitate. Even though these games might not seem like much fun, they propel children into the exciting adult world."
In practice: If your child really wants a toy iron, hoover or play cooker, you can grant them their wishes without worrying about their future!
