Holiday reels: Movie magic for the whole family

Home Alone (1990)

 - Home Alone (1990)
Finally, the movie you've been waiting for. The movie that had us planning homemade booby traps for weeks. Back when McCauley Culkin was a cute child star, and not a sad, has-been heroin addict.

The McCallister family is planning to spend Christmas in Paris this year. The whole family has congregated in their Chicago home to leave for the airport in the morning - that's s a lot of people for one house.

When their youngest, Kevin gets in a fight with his cousins, he is relegated to the empty third floor bedroom. Upset at being left out, Kevin wishes his whole family would disappear. A power outage in the middle of the night causes the family to be late for the airport, and in the ensuing kerfuffle, Kevin is left behind.

Kevin wakes up alone and confused, but is ecstatic at the prospect of doing whatever he wants. Soon enough however, the feeling wears off and he begins to wonder where his family has gone. When Kevin's mother realizes she has left her son at home, she panics and frantically tries to get home. In the meantime, Kevin has to deal with the Wet Bandits, a pair of robbers that have been breaking into houses in the neighbourhood. Boy, are they in for a surprise!

Leaving aside how truly dangerous and disturbing this movie is when you really think about it - the leave their son HOME ALONE. For days - it's funny, sweet and oh so Christmas-y!
