First time out using public transport
Negotiating a bus or a train by yourself can seem a hair-raising prospect.
• Plan in advance. ‘I write a list the night before of everything I might need, including which bags I’ll put what in,’ says new mum Sophie Bristow, 28, from Reading, mum to Ella, 4 months.
• Check the best routes. For example is the slower bus route likely to be less crowded? Does the station you’re travelling to have ramps for a buggy?
• Ask for help. ‘I’ve learned to pluck up my courage and ask strangers for a hand with the buggy,’ says Lucy Greenwood, mum to Ben, 3 months. ‘Most people are actually only too willing to help out, they’re usually just too shy to offer.’
