First night away with your baby

Whether it’s off to your parents’ house, friends or a hotel – going away can seem like a military operation in unfamiliar territory with no let-up…

Tackle it

•    Deal with nerves by asking yourself what's the worst that could go wrong and what you’d do if it did. ‘If you forget something important, for example, there’s actually little that can't be replaced by a trip to the nearest shop,’ says Angharad.

•    ‘Don’t be too rigid about routine,’ says Liz. ‘Your baby will have to learn to fit in up to a point and if you stick to a routine too much, she won’t like change at any time – and life is full of change.’
