Cougar phenomenon: why women date younger men

Why women date younger men

Where does all this talk of cougars stem from? (No, not the wild cat variety, we're talking women who like to pursue younger men!).

Celebville set off the cougar phenomenon a few years ago and heading the list were Demi Moore, Madonna and Sharon Stone. Then came the TV series
Cougar Town which really nailed it for women who wanted to get it on with a younger man. And of course, there's the expression "MILF" which has entered mainstream vernacular thanks to American Pie's new take on the Mrs Robinson phenomenon... Stifler's Mom.

Naturally, we couldn't discuss cougars without mentioning toyboys! And it's a subject that obviously raises certain questions: why do these young men prefer older women? Do they have the same relationship problems as other couples? How does society react to them?

We'd basically like to understand why
some hot young guys fantasize more about our mothers than us? It's a question worth asking, right?!

To give us some insight, we spoke to psychoanalyst and relationship specialist Sophie Cadalen, sociologist Jean-Claude Kaufmann, and trendspotter Vincent Grégoire.
