The pieces at Cannes come primarily from the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies, periods of very different artistic influence:
The post-war years saw craftsmen and jewellers return to a more classical style, with rosace brooches and floral necklaces inspired by the Renaissance.
The Seventies saw colour come back in a big way, with oversized rocks, gaudy gold rings in the Italian style and cabochon polished stones. Coral, onyx and sapphire featured heavily on necklaces, though diamonds (being forever, and all that) were still just as popular.
